Our commitment

Deaf Santa Claus Foundation exists to make joy more accessible. That work starts with this website. We’re committed to ensuring deafsantaclaus.org is usable by everyone — including people who use screen readers, sign language interpreters, keyboard navigation, captioning, voice control, or any other assistive technology.

What we’ve done

We design and develop with accessibility in mind, including:

• Semantic HTML that screen readers can parse
• Color contrast that meets or exceeds WCAG 2.1 AA standards
• Keyboard navigation for all interactive elements
• Alt text on meaningful images
• Captions and transcripts on video content
• Clear, plain-language writing instead of jargon
• Visible focus indicators for keyboard users
• Logical heading structure that helps screen reader users navigate

What we’re working on

Accessibility isn’t a one-time project — it’s ongoing work. Areas we’re actively improving:

• ASL video content for major site sections
• Open captioning on all video, in addition to closed captions
• Live captioning at virtual events
• Plain-language summaries of all policy pages
• Image descriptions that go beyond minimum requirements

Third-party content

Some content on our site comes from third parties — embedded videos, donation forms, social media, and similar tools. We choose partners that prioritize accessibility, but we can’t guarantee third-party content meets the same standards as our own. If you encounter a third-party tool that isn’t accessible, let us know and we’ll work with the provider — or replace the tool if needed.

Standards we follow

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard. We don’t yet claim full conformance, but it’s our target.

ASL support

Communication in American Sign Language is core to our mission. For ASL support on any aspect of our work — including this website — contact us at contact@deafsantaclaus.org and we’ll arrange a video call with an interpreter or ASL-fluent staff member.
