“Charles Graves is a model of what Deaf cultural leadership looks like — generous, visible, and accountable to the community.”

— Gallaudet University

Gallaudet University’s communications office profiled Charles Graves and the Deaf Santa Claus Foundation as part of its ongoing editorial series on Deaf cultural excellence. The piece, written for Gallaudet’s alumni and Deaf-community audience, centered the foundation’s commitment to accessibility-first design and Deaf-led storytelling.

The Gallaudet feature gave Graves room to talk about his own educational journey — including his time at the Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf, where he met Kari — and the way that journey shaped his approach to the foundation’s educational and outreach work. The piece also previewed several collaborations between the foundation and Gallaudet faculty around accessibility programming and Deaf cultural literacy.

For the foundation, the Gallaudet endorsement carries particular weight: it signals to the Deaf community at large that Graves’s work is recognized within the cultural institutions that define the field.
