WXXI News, Rochester’s public media outlet, covered the December 6, 2025 special screening of Deaf Santa Claus at the George Eastman Museum — a venue that holds particular resonance for a documentary about visual storytelling. The Eastman, dedicated to the art and science of photography and cinema, has a long history of Deaf-cultural programming through its proximity to the Rochester Institute of Technology and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
The WXXI segment captured the buildup to the screening — pre-event accessibility planning, community partnerships with RIT/NTID, the involvement of local ASL interpreters — and connected the screening to Rochester’s status as one of the largest Deaf-community population centers in the United States. The piece featured interviews with local Deaf community members on what the film meant to them.
The Eastman screening, with its WXXI coverage, was one of the strongest community-event stops of the national tour.
