“For the first time, my daughter had a real conversation with Santa. She's seven. She'll remember it forever.”

— Good Morning America

ABC’s Good Morning America ran a Charles Graves feature in its holiday lineup, putting Deaf representation in Christmas traditions on national daytime television. The segment leaned into the warmth of in-person visits — kids signing to Santa, Santa signing back, parents wiping away tears in the background.

GMA’s coverage emphasized scale: how many Deaf children there are in the United States who, for years, have not had a Santa they could communicate with directly, and how that number contrasts with the still very small pool of Deaf professional Santas. The piece quoted parents of Deaf children describing the difference in their child’s experience of the holiday after meeting Graves.

For the foundation, the GMA appearance helped formalize a national identity for what had started as a Texas regional practice. The visibility carried directly into the appearance bookings of the following year and into the documentary’s eventual distribution strategy.
